“My friend and I were engaged in mobile trading. Almost like everyone else starts. We used to go to the market square. For sugar, flour. We went to other places. And there was this acquaintance who ran a small music wholesale. And he said, would we like to trade with these cassettes too. And that’s how it started. We began trading these cassettes in the marketplaces…” — Marek Ziemianin.
“…We practically traveled all over Poland. There was a period when Adam ran a phonographic company in Szczecin. He traveled in the north – Szczecin, Kołobrzeg, Gdańsk, Zielona Góra, Poznań. I traveled from Krakow, Bytom, the entire Silesia region, Wałbrzych, Jelenia Góra, Wrocław. Finally, we would meet, exchange tapes from producers. I would bring him tapes from Krakow, and he would bring them from Szczecin.
Later on, he also traded in the north, and I in the south. We traveled to Lublin, Rzeszów, we traveled a lot…” — Marek Ziemianin.
” …We initially recorded on a ‘Diora’ tape recorder due to its high quality and availability of parts. Honestly speaking, they were better than the technicians’ equipment in terms of quality. They were set up horizontally and in rows. It looked like someone was operating them. They had to open all the compartments, insert the cassette the right way, close it, rewind to the beginning, and press play on all compartments simultaneously. A master signal was sent to all the tape recorders. We recorded at either normal speed or double speed. The tape had to run to the very end. Then all the buttons would pop out. We had to press open, remove those cassettes, load the next ones, and repeat the process. And a lot depended on how quickly this was done. So, we joked and said not only in our company but in the entire industry that these were walls of tears. Because when there were 100 compartments or 100 tape recorders, you had to open 200 compartments, load 200 cassettes, so it took a while. The goal was to do it in the shortest time possible.” — Marek Ziemianin.
